WHO WE ARE. Founded in 1919 during the first National Convention of the American Legion, we have grown to be the largest women's patriotic service organization in the world. We are a passionate about making a difference, answering the call of "Service, Not Self." You will find us in more than 9,500 local communities in the USA and in 11 foreign countries.
WHAT WE DO. The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) members and volunteers step us to advance our mission of service to veterans, miliarty, and their families. Our annual volunteer service is worth nearly $2 Billion.
WHY WE MATTER. Making our communities better places in which to live is another core value put inot action by the ALA members every day across the country. Whether hosting a stand down to bring vital health and support services to homeless veterans, or coordinating a send-off or welcom-home event for a deployed military unit, ALA members and volunteers are continuosly at work in their communites, demonstrating the compassion and heart we have for those who server our country and protect our freedoms.

2017-2018 DEPARTMENT PRESIDENT

Melissa Burton

2017-2018 AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY NATIONAL PRESIDENT

Diane Duscheck

President Burton's theme is "Enhancing the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Experience." In goodwill and friendship, the Department of Kansas pledges to educate members, foster relationships, and promote the programs of the ALA in local communities. School is called into session with the membership theme this year: 1 Recruit + 1 Mentor = 2 Active Members. Be ready to experience school like you never have before! To see information about President Melissa and her President's project, click here. National President Duscheck's comments at National Convention were inspiring. She stated that to make a difference today and in the future, plant trees (seed) that you will never be able to see the shadow. (See Nelson Henderson quotation on sidebar.) We all must be patient to see the fruits of our labor blossom-kindness, honest, and fairness. In other words, we are building the foundation of our organization today, in order for it to flourish in the future. To view National President Duscheck's message click here.
