Let's make it a great year by recuriting at least 50 kids for the 2018 June Cadet Law Enforcement Academy!  
Program Purpose Statement:

To develop leaders at all levels, grows membership and mentors of all ages.

Program Information:

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Kansas Highway Patrol in cooperation with the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary annually hosts a one week law enforcement academy for high school students.  The academy is held at the Kansas Highway Patrol Training Center in Salina, Kansas.  The Academy is meant to help young Kansans gain knowledge in a hands on environment about the training and responsibilities of law enforcement officers, and specifically Kansas State Troopers.

  • Cadets learn about marching and inspections

  • Cadets spend time in a classroom

  • Cadets learn techniques in emergency vehicle operation

  • Cadets receive some basic firearms training

  • Cadets experience some Kansas Highway Patrol aircraft operations

  • The experience of a lifetime for any young adult who is considering a career in law enforcement

 

Eligible Cadets Must be:

  • In the summer between their Junior and Senior years of high school

  • Be in good health to take part in law enforcement related activities

  • Have "C+" academic average

  • Write a 100 word essay stating why they want to attend the academy

 

Applications are accepted annually from January through March 1st.  Interested students can contact the American Legion at (785) 232-9315 for an application and further information.

 

The fee per cadet is $300.00.  Interested participants are encouraged to connect with a local American Legion Post or American Legion Auxiliary Unit to discover if sponsorship is available.  Lodging, food and uniform are provided for the week.

Cadet Law is held during the month of June each year.

Mid-Year Unit Report are due to the District Chairman by December 1, 2017.

Year-End Unit Report are due to District Chairman by March 1, 2018.
CADET LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICATIONS MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 31, 2018.
Cadet Law Enforcement Academy is held in the second week in June every year. THIS YEAR CADET LAW WILL BE HELD FROM JUNE10 TO JUNE 15, 2018.
