Officer and Program Information:

Chaplains, by virtue of the office, are called to express, by word and action, our founding principle of service to God and Country.  You are encouraged to celebrate diversity among people, cultures & faiths and to provide spiritual and emotional guidance when needed or requested, always lending dignity and respect to the occasion.

As a Chaplin for the American Legion Auxiliary, you must remember not to offend anyone as we do not promote any one religion.  Chaplains reach out, not only to the American Legion Family, but also to all those with needs in their communities, states, and nation.  Chaplains at the unit, department, and national levels serve alongside their fellow members and are called upon to pray at gatherings and to lead services such as memorials for our fallen soldiers and deceased members. They energize the hearts of Auxiliary members and foster selflessness as they serve veterans, the military and their families.

Your objectives as a Chaplain should be: (1) to pray for our members and leaders that they will do the job being asked of them this coming year; (2) to guide members through prayers that are appropriate for the situation; and (3) to act as the spiritual ambassador of the organization.
Through various means of communication, the Chaplain should:

  1. Provide and promote the emotional and spiritual support needed for the Legion Family through e-mails, cards, and prayers.
  2. Educate members on the diversity of all faiths and cultures.
  3. Reconnect with the master of might and promote our founding fathers’ desire to create one nation under God.
  4. Be responsible for all invocations, benedictions and memorial services for deceased members at official meetings.
  5. Recommend educational materials that promote a spirit of unity and love.
  6. Provide fellowship and spiritual events to help the Unit/District/Department grow spiritually.
The "Angels Among Us" will be an online means of communication to provide updates, prayers, spiritual & emotional support to the Kansas American Legion Family.  Contact Ida Meyer to be added to the list of "Angels Amongy Us" recipients.

Don't forget to schedule spiritual fun events throughout the year providing fellowship time and spiritual growth.

A request that special prayers be sent for the Department President's prayer book can be sent to Department Chaplain, Paula Sellens c/o American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Kansas, 1314-B SW Topeka Blvd, Topeka, KS 66616, or by e-mail:werechaps@cox.net
